# Dmand AI API Rate Limits and Throughput Guidelines

> Understand Dmand AI API rate limits, bulk batch size, how polling counts against your quota, and how to request higher limits for high-volume use.

The Dmand AI API limits how many requests you can send per minute and how many NPIs you can include in a single bulk request. This page explains the default limits and how to work within them.

## Rate limit

The default rate limit is **`100` requests per minute** per API key and organization. This applies to all public endpoints, including submit and poll requests.

## Bulk batch size

You can submit up to **`60` NPIs per bulk request** via `POST /api/v1/email/bulk`. Combined with the rate limit, bulk requests are the fastest way to process large NPI lists.

## Polling counts against your limit

Every poll request to `GET /api/v1/email/{request_id}` or `GET /api/v1/batch/{batch_id}` counts against your `100` requests per minute. To preserve quota, use [webhooks](/general/webhooks) as your primary delivery method and poll only as a fallback.

## Validation errors

Malformed requests return `422 Unprocessable Entity` with a body like:

```json theme={null}
{
  "detail": [
    {
      "loc": ["body", "npis"],
      "msg": "List should have at least 1 item after validation, not 0",
      "type": "too_short"
    }
  ]
}
```

## Live enrichment timing

When no stored email exists, Dmand runs a live enrichment lookup. This can take longer than cached results, up to about `15` minutes before timing out. If a request cannot finish within `15` minutes, it is marked failed and its credits are refunded.

## Requesting higher limits

If you need more than `100` requests per minute, contact [`hello@dmand.ai`](mailto:hello@dmand.ai) to discuss a limit increase.
