# How Dmand AI API Credits Are Held, Charged, and Refunded

> Dmand AI holds credits when you submit, charges only for emails found, and refunds the rest. Recent replays of the same NPI are free of charge.

The Dmand AI API uses your organization's Dmand credits. You are only charged for emails that are found: credits are held when you submit and settled when the batch completes.

## How billing works

    When you submit NPIs, the credits they could cost are held from your balance.

    When the batch completes, you are charged for each NPI where an email was found (`completed`).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Refund what was not found">
    Credits held for NPIs with no email (`not_found` or `failed`) are returned to your balance.
  </Step>

## Cost per email type

The cost of each found email depends on `enrichment_email_type`:

| `enrichment_email_type` | Credits per email found |
| ----------------------- | ----------------------- |
| `any` (default)         | `1`                     |
| `professional`          | `1`                     |
| `personal`              | `3`                     |

## Free replays

If your organization requests the same NPI again within **`30` days**, the API returns the earlier result at no charge. Replayed results have `"replayed": true` in the response.

## Check your balance

Call [GET /credits](/api-reference/account/credits) to see your organization's balance:

| `balance` | number | Remaining credits available.                  |
| `total`   | number | Total credits allocated to your organization. |
| `used`    | number | Credits already consumed.                     |

## Usage in responses

Poll and webhook responses include a `usage` object:
